My memory is of serenading the Queen.
In 1994, the Royal Train pulled into the station for the Queen’s visit to Rochdale. The visit was in celebration of 150 years of Co-operation (Rochdale being the birthplace of the Co-op). A young Michael Higginbottom was in Rochdale’s Brass Band as a 14-year-old and played the National Anthem which was filmed for News at 10. The Queen stood behind me for the entire thing. Quite a day in the memory.
