With a large amount of specialist equipment needing to be fitted onto new Vauxhall Astra and Ford Focus Nottingham Police patrol cars and with service and maintenance workshops under pressure, fitments could not be carried out effectively.

Solutions
The solution to installing all the new build and retrofit equipment to the same exacting standards was a custom installation specification designed to FCS1362 standards.
Installation consisted of incident recorders and a telematics system that monitors driver behaviour, reconstructs accidents and near misses and provides the police with valuable real-time, over-the-air vehicle data. This was scheduled around other work on the vehicle, saving time and making a significant cost reduction.
Routing and mounting of the equipment was improved to allow for easy service and maintenance. Installations were made modular so repairs cause less downtime and were designed not to interfere with equipment in the vehicle.
