Summary

Handsfree Group were invited by Marshalls PLC (the UK’s leading hard landscaping, building and roofing products supplier) to supply and install an 11-camera system into their fleet. This solution also needed to be fully compliant with the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Phase 2 requirements that came into effect on the 28th of October 2024; thus, allowing all Marshall’s vehicles to comply with DVS and operate effectively within Greater London.

Solution

The proposed solution, installed by our team of nationwide FCS1362 and FITAS accredited engineers, eliminated vehicle blind spots. Thus, improving manoeuvring and reversing of the vehicles, and protecting pedestrians and cyclists that may step into these blind spots.

The AI Pedestrian Detection Cameras installed offer high-precision, real-time Vulnerable Road User (VRU) detection powered by Edge AI. With audible and visual alerts when a VRU enters the detection zone, this solution differentiates between street side furniture and VRUs, thus eliminating tedious false alarms. This setup fulfils the DVS PSS criteria for both a Moving Off Information System (MOIS) and Blind Spot Detection System (BSIS).
